Welcome to the website of Dundee Branch of the RSCDS (Royal Scottish Country Dance Society). Scottish country dancing is a very social activity - a good way of meeting people and making friends. Scottish Country dancing is recognised as an excellent form of exercise as shown by research carried out by the University of Strathclyde. We run a range of classes for adults, and also have a varied programme of dances throughout the year to suit all ages and abilities.
What is Scottish Country Dancing? It is traditional social dancing, usually in sets of 4 couples, to the exhilarating music of the accordion, fiddle or keyboard. The reels and jigs can be energetic, the slower strathspeys elegant, but most of all it’s lots of fun – a lively dance form enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities worldwide.
We welcome anyone interested in learning to dance Scottish to our classes, which are held weekly from September to April and are available at Beginner, Intermediate, Social and Advanced levels, (more information on the class pages). We also encourage anyone interested in Scottish Country Dancing to join us as members of the Dundee Branch which includes membership of the RSCDS, whether they attend Branch classes or not. The RSCDS promotes Scottish dance and music, supports dance teachers and the musicians who play for us and maintains a vast archive related to dancing. Come and try dancing at the Slessor Gardens whilst waiting to welcome participants at the finish line. And participants welcome too, with any spare energy.
RSCDS Dundee will be providing entertainment and activity for everyone on the 16th August 2026.
